Investing into having your private car may seem easy as switching from neutral gear to the reverse of automatic ones, but in reality, it is not. It may be harder for some, and so, proper knowledge about not just how to drive but also each part of the wheel should be attained.
One crucial part of a car would be the exhaust system which is responsible for guiding exhaust gases out of a vehicle. Comprised of many pipes and other pieces like the exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, resonator, muffler, and tailpipe, this gas escape route may be complicated depending on its overall system design.
One car model that has a 3rd Gen Cummins design for the exhaust system is the Dodge Ram from 2010 to 2012 and here are some parts of this vital car part:
- Exhaust Manifold
The exhaust manifold connects directly to the engine and is usually made from steel, aluminum, or stainless steel. This part collects the exhaust from each of the cylinders and combines it into one pipe. A vehicle may have one or more exhaust manifolds depending on its size and is composed of smooth, curving passages designed to increase the flow of exhaust.
- Oxygen Sensor
The oxygen sensor measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust. This information allows the computer to add or subtract fuel, which will improve your fuel economy and optimize performance. Two oxygen sensors are usually found on vehicles.
- Catalytic Converter
The catalytic conversion is responsible for converting harmful gases into water vapor and carbon dioxide. This component reduces vehicle emissions and ensures that your car’s emissions are less harmful to the environment.
- Muffler
The muffler is used to reduce noise and soundproof your vehicle’s engines. Through acoustic quieting, this part dampens the vibrations caused by engine sound pressure. There are two types of mufflers. Baffle chambers are used to reduce noise while the second is designed to lower backpressure.
- Exhaust Pipe
The exhaust tube is responsible for connecting all components of the exhaust system. These pipes are designed to allow exhaust to travel as efficiently as possible towards the vehicle’s rear.
